A REFLECTION ON TEACHING MONO AND DI-SYLLABIC WORD STRESS
TECHNOLOGY FOR LANGUAGE TEACHING AND LEARNING
Introduction:
In
teaching STRESS in Mono and Disyllabic words using NOUNS and VERBS, on page 6,
Unit 5, Specific Objective 1.5.1 of the English Syllable, my group met and opted
to use Google docs for the collaboration of this assignment. The group lead signed
each one of us onto Google Docs where we contributed to the development of the
content of the instruction.
Technological
tools used:
We
discussed among other things on the tools that will suit the creation of a short
video of our lesson and opted for the Adobe Premier pro-2020 Video Editor. We accessed
the app on google play store and downloaded it onto our computer. We also used an
Infinix Note 10 Pro mobile phone camera and voice recorder for the shooting and
voice recording.
Creating
our instruction content: the process and lessons learned
First,
we had to record the instruction onto a mobile phone (an Infinix Note 10 Pro). The
recording was formatted into a Wav mp4 video as well as voice. Both video and voice
recordings were transferred via Bluetooth to the group lead’s computer where we
could assess the editor. The group lead first demonstrated how to create a video
using the editor. Having done a first practice, we then zoomed into the
creation of our instruction content.

In
creating the video, we used such features of the editor as: edit, add voice, add
video, transitions, sizing, preview, timing etc. We queued the video using Encarta
media. Then he led us to the pass the recording into transitions. The group lead
came in as and when we needed direction to do the right thing. When we finally
had our video created, each of us tried to do this on our own.

Challenges and Conclusion
In
attempting to do it individually, I encountered a few challenges. At some
point, I could not set the timing right from the audio to the video. The group
lead assisted me to use the adjusting features to do so. This notwithstanding,
it was great to create my own video of a lesson. At least, I had acquired one
more technological skill in addition to using CALL in language teaching. It was
fun and educative. Though time consuming, it was worth coming out with a good video.
