Folder Chapter: CHEREPONI WATER CRISIS
Solving the Water Crisis in Chereponi: The Efforts of Past and Present MPs, DCEs, and Other Stakeholders in the District
Njakpien,
We have a reality on our hands as a people. This reality is that, Chereponi, our District, is severely impoverished. There is no political card game here! The realities of life say it all. WE NEED A RAPID IMPROVEMENT NOW OR NEVER. ELSE BY THE TIME WE, WHO SHOULD HAVE CAUSED THE CHANGE NOW, FEEL THE NEED TO DO IT AT WILL, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN TOO LATE, AND POSTERITY WILL JUDGE US SQUARELY.
Njakpien,
One of the realities of the District is severe WATER CRISIS. Did you hear that? This is ONE of the realities. I join the many voices out here already to re-echo this concern.
Njakpien,
For the sake of tomorrow, let us NOT play politics with this issue at all! The water crisis in Chereponi is a pressing issue that requires immediate attention from all stakeholders, including past and present MPs, DCEs, and other local leaders. Coincidentally, it is in this Chereponi that we have labelled a whole structure and/or area, WATER IS LIFE/ LIFE IS WATER. You and I know for a fact that without water, animate and inanimate life will cease, and the vegetation and climate will be severely affected.
Njakpien,
The impact of our water crisis is far-reaching, affecting not only the environment but also the local economy. Consider how this is already going to have a toll on the development of new sites, such as during the building and moulding of blocks. The cost of buying water for such basic developmental activities is already posing a severe economic hardship. Generally, the consequence is immensely immeasurable. Aside from masonry activities, the activities of food vendors will be severely affected too. Thus, our second source of ready to use food from vendors will face serious economic adjustments leading to the drying of our lean pockets.
Njakpien,
There are equally HEALTH IMPLICATIONS.
The health implications of the water crisis are also alarming. The risk of cholera, typhoid, and other pathogenic infections will increase significantly as a result of the lack of clean and potable water supply systems. Again, note that the lack of fresh water in the District will lead to increased dehydration of our body system.
Njakpien,
Despite this, I have hope. Hope, that, our efforts will yield results tomorrow.
Therefore, to address this crisis, I suggest strategic mobilisation of collective efforts and strong political will by all stakeholders including our past and current MPs , DCEs and Traditional Authorities. It is very necessary to do so now. Local politicians such as our able Assembly Members are not occluded. You must ALL come together to prioritize the water crisis and work towards finding a lasting solution.
Njakpien,
One potential solution I should like to suggest is the proper connection of our water system to the River Oti/ Comoe river from the Togo area. Through this, we could then engage in a proper mechanisation of all our water systems in the Chereponi township and extend to the satellite communities. This would provide a reliable source of clean water for residents and help to alleviate the crisis. This effort must be backed by strong SENSE of love for the COMMUNITY. IT WILL NOT BE EASY but you can do it.
Njakpien,
Expanding the local dam, Katapila, is another crucial step in addressing the water crisis. This would not only provide more water for residents but also support irrigation activities, which are essential for local farmers.
Njakpien,
The District Assembly must prioritise solving the water crisis first and foremost, as well as improving the roads network and providing essential services such as a GCB bank for the area, my addendum.
Njakpien,
I am stressing the word COLLABORATION. The District can only see development through collaboration. If only our stakeholders can truly forsake their political, traditional and family differences and try this new test, only then shall we experience a new dawn. By working together, I strongly believe our stakeholders can find a solution to the water crisis and other crisis in Chereponi. Truly, this only requires a collaborative effort, including the mobilisation of resources and the implementation of effective strategies.
Njakpien,
Ultimately, the solution to our water crisis in Chereponi requires our collective effort. From all stakeholders. I think that by working together, we can ensure that the people of Chereponi have access to clean water amongst other things, and a better quality of life.
END.
